Volunteering FAQs

Who can volunteer?
Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years old & possess the following qualities:

  • Be reliable and conscientious
  • Feel comfortable around others and willing to be part of a team

What can I do to help?

  • Visit with hospice patients and their families
  • Reach out to bereaved individuals and their loved ones
  • Help plan and participate in special events
  • Assist with clerical duties in our administrative offices
  • Make phone calls to insure quality of service
  • Deliver Meals on Wheels

What kind of commitment must I make?

  • A minimum of 1 year of service is requested
  • The amount of hours needed for each volunteer opportunity varies. However, we work with your schedule and availability and place you accordingly in an area that best suits your needs and talents.

What type of environment will I be working in?

  • Volunteers working directly with patients will visit them in one of the following settings: private homes, assisted living, skilled nursing facilities, and hospitals.
  • Non-patient volunteers (office support and special events volunteers) will work from our administrative offices in Vernon.

How do I begin the volunteer process?
All prospective volunteers are personally interviewed by the Volunteer Coordinator who listens for ways in which the individual’s special talents may be best utilized. References and a background check are part of the routine application process.
